The third annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast will be held 8:30-10 a.m. Jan. 18, at the Pines Manor, 2085 Route 27, Edison.

Admission price is $30 for adults and $20 for children age 12 and under.

Guest speakers will be contest-winning middle school children who will read their essays addressing the topic “Dream of a Community United.”

Musical entertainment will feature the uplifting and harmonious voices of local choir members who have come together to form the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Choir.

The menu includes fresh-squeezed juices, freshly baked miniature Danish and assorted muffins, fresh fruit and berries, homemade breads, farm-fresh fluffy scrambled eggs, home-fried potatoes, country breakfast sausage, crisp bacon, coffee, tea, and more.

Tickets may be purchased by visiting the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce, 323 Main St., Metuchen. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The weekend celebration will wrap up on Monday, January 16th, at the Fifth Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast to be held at the Pines Manor, 2085 Route 27 in Edison. Musical entertainment will feature the uplifting and harmonious voices of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Choir. We are proud to announce that this year’s keynote speaker is Mildred S. Scott, Sheriff of Middlesex County. She is the first female Sheriff for the county of Middlesex and the first African American Sheriff in the state of New Jersey. Guest speakers will include four middle school children that will read their winning essays that address the question:  “What would Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. say to all of us if he were alive today?” 

The Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge, & South Amboy, New Hope Baptist Church, and Second Baptist Church have joined together to offer an opportunity for the community to unite in a “Weekend of Celebration” to honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This year’s theme continues to be “The New Birth of Dreamers….Come Dream With Us”

 The breakfast will feature a hot buffet and will run from 8:30 am to 10:00 am.  Reservations are a must!  Tickets will be required for admittance and may be purchased by visiting the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce office (323 Main St., Metuchen) or by downloading and submitting a registration form posted on the Chamber website at www.metuchenchamberexchange.com.  Ticket prices are: $25 for Adults in Advance/$30 at the door and $15 for Children 12 and Under in Advance/$20 at the door.  Please note that ticket requests not made in person must be received in the Chamber office by January 6, 2012.  For more information about the breakfast, contact the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce at (732) 548-2964 or e-mail metuchen.chamber@verizon.net

The annual community celebration will begin on Sunday, January 15th, at 3:30 pm, at New Hope Baptist Church located at 45 Hampton Street in Metuchen.  The service will include choir selections, youth recitations, remarks and reflections from local clergy and other special guests.     A free will offering will be collected to benefit the MLK High School Senior Scholarship Program.  Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program.  For more information about Sunday’s event, contact New Hope Baptist Church at 732-549-8941.
