  • NJ Clown FarmsHalloween 2017 in New Jersey

299County Road 513, Frenchtown, New Jersey, 08825

Seventy-six years ago, as legend has it, a traveling circus made its way through Hunterdon County. On a particularly foggy night, a caravan of clowns broke away from the group and ended up lost among fields and farms. Seeing a solitary light in the distance the clowns stumbled upon a desolate farm about a mile off the road. Looking for a safe place to rest their heads for the night, the clowns approached the house. The old farmer bitterly answered the door as the rest of his family lay asleep. Rather than being greeted with a warm act of kindness the farmer chased the clowns off his property screaming and calling them “horrible freaks.” Their fate was decided. After that night, no one has heard from or seen the farmer or his family. As a matter of fact, those “horrible freaks” never left his property. Instead, they haunt the farm at night, kidnapping and torturing anyone who wanders off alone. The old circus clowns have a new act they practice when the sun goes down. Their tricks result in scares. They traded laughs for screams. And they won’t stop until they have gotten their vengeance.

Tonight, we invite you to witness the legend of the Clown Farm to see if the fun is all its really cracked up to be.

Tickets: $20 Entrance Fee

When: Weekends (Friday & Saturday) Throughout October

116 South Branch Rd., Hillsborough, NJ 08844

Check out a scare that will stay with you, with two attractions: Creepy Hollow and Slay-Ride.

The Creepy Hollow story is one of the most complex and darkest parts of the whole Scare Farm history. Although it’s been over a century since the Atrum family farmed this property the locals called Creepy Hollow, their evil legacy remains. Could it have been the pull of this dark land that changed something in them? Neighbors would say that the scarecrows were there for more than just scaring the crows away and you could always hear maniacal laughter through the red corn. So come and walk the same fields where ‘Old Eli’ grew and harvested his gruesome crop and “Live The Story…Or Die Trying.”

Once the sun goes down and the mask of this happy fall destination is stripped away, you will see Scare Farm as it truly exists. The terror is real, your nightmares can come to life and madness rules the land.  So if you have ever thought about taking a haunted hayride during the Harvest Moon, climb aboard The Slay Ride and Fear the Ride!

Autumn Life Hacks – 15 Tips to Make Your Fall the Best it Can Be!

Autumn Life Hacks

15 Tips to Make Fall the Best Season Yet!

Fall Life Hacks

Summer is behind us, and with the start of the fall season comes a ton of wonderful things, leaves changing, cooling weather, pumpkin picking, apple cider, Halloween, and so many other activities. But how can you optimize your fall experience for both your home and yourself?

Well, look no further! Let the Kerr Team share tips with you so you can enjoy the season, with:

15 Tips to Make the Fall Your Season Yet!

Fall Life Hacks

  1. Make Pumpkins Last!

There’s nothing worse than watching your picked pumpkins decay on your front porch. As they rot, they attract a variety of animals and insects feasting upon them. Stop this natural process by taking a spray bottle and filling it with a mixture of bleach and water. Coat the pumpkin and watch them last until after Halloween.

2. Easy Leaf Cleaning

With the season comes a massive leaf cleanup, especially if you have a deck or a patio. It looks sloppy and can be a problem to maintain. If you don’t have a leaf blower, because we all don’t own a landscaping company, this could be a tall task. Well work smarter, not harder. Use a simple house fan to blow the leaves where you want them to go, or into a pile. Makes for easy cleanup and looks even better.

3. Dry Your Shoes/Boots with Ease

During the season, it can easy for your footwear to become wet, and there’s nothing worse than walking around in a wet shoe. Well you don’t have to buy a new pair, nor break the bank cleaning them. Just grab some old newspaper and put them in the shoe, the paper will absorb the wetness, and overnight, your shoes will be dry.

Fall Life Hacks

4. Save a Wet Phone

In fairness, this one doesn’t always work, but it’s worth a shot instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a new phone. With the season can come rain, which causes wet clothes. But that could be devastating to your electronics. If you get your phone wet, to save it, place it in a container with uncooked, white rice, overnight. The salts in the rice with pull the moisture out of the phone, and hopefully save the functionality of your phone.

5. Create a New Kind of Lunch Box

With the fall comes back to school. While at school, you want to save lunch to be as fresh as possible. Well re-purpose those old black CD cases into a lunch container. The air tight seal will conceal freshness and ensure a good meal. See picture belowFall Life Hacks

6. Heating Pinecones

Pinecones can be a very nice decorative piece for your Thanksgiving table or even on a coffee table. But Pinecones can be a hotbed for insects and other undesirables you wouldn’t like in your home. To prevent this, before displaying them, put them on a baking sheet and cook them at 250 degrees for a bout an hour. That will take care of any of those hitchhikers you wouldn’t want to display to guests.

Fall Life Hacks

7. Use Old Cinderblocks to Display Jack-o-lanterns

This one is fun, but it may not be worth it to go out an purchase. But if you have some cinderblocks lying around, you can adjust them into being displays for Jack-O-Lanterns and candles, that will not burn and will be aesthetically pleasing.

Fall Life Hacks

8. DIY Potpourri

One of the best parts of the season are the smells. You can achieve this with a candle or a plug in spray. But these scents can be achieved in a cheap, simple way by making your own potpourri. Use a few cinnamon sticks, a couple sliced apples, some orange peels, cloves, and vanilla extract, and simmer them in a pot on a stove, and let simmer throughout the day (just keep adding water to prevent burning), and your home will smell amazing.

9. Unique Candles

This is an inexpensive way to display a unique style of candles for the season. Take a normal candle, the larger the better, and place them in a larger vase. With the space between the candle and the vase, pour popcorn kernels in the gaps and wrap a bow around the vase, and display it where appropriate.

Fall Life Hacks

10. Gutter Cleaning

Every year, several people get injured, or worse, while cleaning out their gutters, by falling off a ladder. Well avoid doing so, taking a shop vacuum and attach a PVC pipe that bends and simply do it from the ground. Your back will thank you, as will your friends and family be happy you did it in a safe and sound process.

11. Bathroom Pumpkins

This is a fun, yet practical thing for storage in your bathroom. With your extra rolls of toilet paper, wrap them in cheap tissue paper (you can even use the packaging paper from a gift bag you may have received), then cut an old toilet paper roll and roll the cardboard into a stem, and even take leaves from outside and glue them to the top. Your guests will think it’s cute, with paying barely anything.

Fall life hacks

12. While Landscaping, Use a Tarp

We’ve all had the struggle of raking leaves, then when putting them into leaf bags, half of the leaves fall out and become scattered all over again, causing you to have to do it all over again. Well work smarter, not harder. Rake the leaves onto a plastic tarp, then when full, just lift the tarp and dump into however you dispose of your leaves.

Fall Life Hacks

13. Make a Fall Themed Centerpiece

Putting flowers or a centerpiece in the center of your table, really makes the table look a lot better. But why not make it have a fall theme, without breaking the bank. Take a normal pumpkin, hallow it out, then place a glass or even an aluminum can in the center with some water, and fill with your choice of floral arrangement. This will sure to brighten up any meal.

14. Washing Potatoes Made Easy

Potatoes are a usual staple in any fall meal. The first part of creating the delicious side item is washing them. Some people washing them one by one in the sink, but why? Make it easy on yourself, especially if you’re making a lot of potatoes. Put them in the top shelf of your dishwasher and run them through a rinse cycle, without adding soap.

15. Cooking Potatoes Made Easy

After washing your potatoes, you of course need to cook them. Well it could take a long time and sometimes you don’t have a pot big enough to fit all of them. Boil water in a normal pot or kettle, put the potatoes in a regular cooler, then once it the kettle boils, pour the water over the potatoes, close the lid to the cooler, and let the potatoes cook in the cooler, add more boiled water as needed.

Home Summer Maintenance

Summer 2017: 10 Tips to Maintaining Your Home in the Heat!

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

—F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Summer 2017: 10 Tips to Maintaining Your Home in the Heat

Home Summer Maintenance

Summer is BACK! Sure the days are longer, the air sweeter, the sun shines brightly, and the weather encourages outdoor fun, but the HEAT, MY GOD THE HEAT.  This weather can be a strain on your home, especially if it’s older.  The best way to handle the beating of heat, sun, and weather on your fortress of solitude, is TO PREPARE. That’s why we have created a simple to-do list to ensure your home survives for one season.

Home Summer Maintenance

HERE ARE 10 SIMPLE HOUSE KEEPING TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR SUMMER

Home Summer Maintenance

1.) Gutters: Check for Leaks or Loosening

Home Summer Maintenance

Make sure all of your gutters and drains are free from debris and leaves. Improper draining could lead to flooding of the basement and property devastation.  While clearing the gutters, make sure they are securely attached. A 5 cent screw is far cheaper than siding, roof, or landscape damage, or worse, injuring on a loved one or neighbor. Make sure your gutter drains are clear as well, so water may drain away from the house, instead of inside.

2.) Leveling: Filling in the areas of your yard or foundation that are uneven

Home Summer Maintenance

The unforgiving Winter can cause uneven lawn levels and low points surrounding your home’s foundation. Then comes Spring, with Spring comes rain. We all know the rhyme. Depending on your area, rain can cause flooding, which can lead to water damage around the foundation and, come Summer, thanks to those pools of water, AT BEST, they become breeding grounds for insects and put a damper on a Summer party. At worst?

……. Well take a gander at the above gif.

3.) Windows & Entryways: Check the Wood and Sealing

Home Summer Maintenance

Make sure you make the best of your energy bill. To check, take a screwdriver and make sure there’s no separation in wood or the sealant on your windows, door jams, decks, or railings. If there are gaps, now is the time to repair, before the weather turns colder and damage them further and cause a larger problem later.

4.) Check Your Roof

Home Summer Maintenance

You don’t have to start off on your roof for this, work smarter, not harder. Check it from your yard and check for any damaged, missing, split, or loose shingles or gaps, caused by the harsh winter weather. CHECK THEM NOW! The harsh summer sun can be extremely damaging to roof shingles. You should also check to see if shingles need to be repaired surrounding chimneys or vents, if they do, don’t be a hero, get an experienced roofer to fix these areas. The cost of these simple tasks will be far cheaper than replacing your entire roof later. If you need vast repairs, now would be a great time to begin budgeting money to fix your roof.

5.) Chimney: Check for Splits

Home Summer Maintenance

After the thaw of Winter, your chimney has often taken 4-6 months of abuse from need to stay warm. Do yourself a favor and have a certified chimney sweep, to clean out your flue and inspected. Also check the chimney itself for damage and have it repair.

6.) Inspect Concrete Tabs For Movement

Home Summer Maintenance

This is the time of year to inspect all the concrete slaps around your home to find movement. In the winter, freezing water causes matter to expand which may cause them to move. Concrete slaps should drain away from your home, but if the gap becomes to wide, fill in the gap with cement or silicone chalk after power washing out the gap before sealing.

7.) Old Firewood: Remove or Replace

Home Summer Maintenance

Depending on your home, firewood is commonplace. The typical storage of wood outside throughout the winter. But as the season changes, dispose of that dead wood. The weather has made them either water logged, bug infested, or other problems that render them useless. The best practice for storing firewood is, covered, 18 inches off the ground, and at least 2 feet from a structure.

8.) Garden Hoses: Check for Leaks or Damage

Home Summer Maintenance

Winter can be murder on your outdoor water faucets for freeze damage. To check, place your thumb over the opening of the faucet, turn it on, if your finger stops the flow of water completely, there is most likely damage to the interior sections of the pipes and needs replacement. If the hose itself isn’t stored properly, you may need to check your hose for dry rot. If there is, just replace the entire hose.

Home Summer Maintenance

9.) Cooling System: Clean and Maintain

Home Summer Maintenance

If you have to perform more than a simple cleaning, NOW is the time to hire an air conditioning specialist to perform maintenance. Why now? Because as soon as the heat increases, more and more people will notice theirs is not working as it should, filling up a specialist’s appointment book. While you sweat out the days of summer.

10.) Fuel: Check your levels

Home Summer Maintenance

And Lawnmower Blades

Home Summer Maintenance

Get a jump on the season and get yourself gas, batteries, chargers, and sharpen blades. Fill them up now and forget about it until next year. The same goes with lawn mower blades. Give them a good sharpening now in the spring, when it’s pleasant outside, and don’t worry about it come August, when mowing the lawn alone is already an endurance test. Work smarter, not harder.

Now that these After Getting a Jump on the Season with these Steps, Now you can take the time to appreciate the  warm weather. Relax, smell the roses and enjoy the cool summer nights and all that R & R

Groundhog's Day Facts

Groundhog’s Day – February 2nd – Groundhog Facts

Groundhog's Day Facts

Well, it’s February 2nd, yet again. So you know what that means,

IT’S GROUNDHOG’S DAY!!!

Groundhog's Day Facts

Now most of us are familiar with certain elements of groundhog’s day, like Punxsutawney Phil, Staten Island Chuck, that if they see their shadow it means six more weeks of winter, and it’s a pretty great Bill Murray movie.

But here are some other, less known facts you may not know about the Groundhog and his special day.

Groundhog's day Facts

  • The first Punxsutawney Phil began predicting on February 2nd, 1887. Though started earlier by Pennsylvania Germans much earlier in the 1800’s, the first official “shadow search” began in 1887 and hasn’t missed a year since.
  • Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous of all the groundhogs, is correct about his weather predictions about 38% of the time, seeing his shadow (meaning 6 more weeks of winter) about 85% of the time.
  • Groundhogs are a member of the squirrel family (the largest of said family) and are known to climb and swim very well to avoid predators.
  • Groundhogs are known for borrowing deep into the ground in very elaborate tunnels, including a separate area to use as a bathroom… seriously.
  • Groundhogs are also referred to as woodchucks, whistlepigs, chuck, wood-shock, groundpig, whistler, thickwood badger, Canada marmot, monax, moonack, weenusk, and red monk.

Groundhog's day facts

  • There are a large number of groundhogs that predict the weather, aside from Punxsutawney Phil, there’s Staten Island Chuck, Pothole Pete in New York City,  and Warton Willie in Wiarton, Ontario, Canada.
  • The groundhog lives most of their life alone, socializing with other groundhogs only to mate, but still look out for one and other. They communicate in high pitched shrills to warn other groundhogs of impeding danger
  • Groundhogs are herbivores and survive by eating grass and plants.
  • During birth, they usually spawn around 6 offspring
  • Groundhogs are known to eat a great deal in the summer, fatten up, then hibernate all winter. Around mid October until early spring.

Those are just some fun facts about the Groundhog and the holiday.

Now let’s just pray he sees no shadow.

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

Don’t Be Taken Off-guard, BE PREPARED FOR WINTER!

If you are like us in the Northeast, snow, blizzards, and ice are an unavoidable obstacle in our daily lives between the months of late November and April. But every year, we are reminded how difficult its removal can be, short of buying a snow blower for your walkway or a large decommissioned army tank for your commute to work. Aside from the muscle inducing soreness that comes with the hassle of shoveling, there comes another hardship: damage. So here’s 10 tips that will help you remove those heaps of snow, without inflicting destruction on your property.

  1. Protect Your Plants

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

This is one of those tips that you do before it starts snowing. If you have a flower bed or a garden that you want to avoid looking like a treasure hunt come spring, prior to it snowing, place large metal stakes into the ground, so (unless it’s an absurd amount of snow) you are able to know where to stop digging, without disturbing your plants. If you have large amounts of snow on bigger scrubs in front of your home or along your driveway, experts says “leave it.” If they are loaded with snow, leave them alone, you will tend to do more damage removing snow than if you just didn’t touch them.

2. Be Sure to Use a Snow Melter

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

This is another practice to do before a storm begins. Experts say to use a liquid mix, preferably a Liquid Magnesium Chloride Blend. Use a garden sprayer to apply it to your walkway or driveway prior to the snowfall. This can slowly melt snow up to two inches in accumulations. Wondering how much is enough? Use about one gallon for every 1,000 square feet.

3. Make Sure You Have The Right Shovel

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

We’ve all seen some random shovel or snow pusher on sale at your local “S-Mart” (you know the stores I mean), but keep in mind, just because something is cheap, doesn’t mean it’s a good purchase. “Look for a shovel with a lightweight plastic or aluminum blade coated with a nonstick finish to make loading and unloading a breeze. Avoid a blade so big you’ll be tempted to overload it; an ergonomic, S-shaped shaft will save your back by requiring less bending. Avoid using metal blades on softer materials, such as wooden decking. A pusher—basically a shovel with a C-shaped blade—is handy for clearing lightweight, fluffy snow. ” – via ThisOldHouse.com

4. Don’t Put it Off… It’s Going to Get Worse

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

The right way to shovel, is to shovel and shovel often. EVEN IF IT’S STILL STORMING. The key is to not let the snow to bond with either your properties surface (freezing), also it’s a lot easier to shovel 2 inches 2 or 3 times, than it is to shovel 7 inches, trust me, I know from experience. And don’t leave a layer of snow between the air and the pavement. You want the pavement to show, so the sun can do its natural job and warm it as much as possible, not allowing ice or more snow to form.

5. Be Sure Not To Pile Up The Snow

Winter Tips: Snow Removal

The best thing you can do is avoid having snow near the foundation of your home, SO DON’T HELP IT. It may be out of your way for the time being, but if it’s next to the foundation of your home, that snow can melt, turning it to water, which can easily refreeze. And as we all know from elementary school science class, when water freezes it expands, causing cracks that make your home susceptible to future water damages.
